Happy Thanksgiving!

How do you serve a home cooked, delicious Thanksgiving dinner to over 200 children and adults? Well, you start with 10 turkeys, 165 lbs of potatoes, stuffing, gravy, broccoli, pies, and rolls. You have an awesome lunch coordinator and her incredible group of volunteers. You do all this to raise money for a project to feed the homeless over the holidays, invite church and school families along with students, and before you know it, you have a Thanksgiving feast that is just incredible. That's what happened today at FLS. What a great experience today was. The lunch was fabulous, but even more important the family feeling was heartwarming. Thank you everyone involved in making this such a wonderful day to be part of the FLS family. On behalf of the faculty and staff of First Lutheran School, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

Opportunities to Show Thankfulness

Its that time of year again! I don't even think the Halloween pumpkins had made it to the trash yet and Christmas decorations were already showing up in the stores. This also becomes the season where there is more focus on reaching out to those who need a little extra help. Because we want our students to focus on our theme of "Living a Life of Service and Praise" , we are providing many opportunities this holiday season for our students to develop a servant heart through giving.

1. Each Thursday for the 2nd quarter of school is "Jeans Day". Students and teachers may wear jeans to school and pay $1.oo. All money collected will be given to All Children" Hospital. On our first day we collected $110. That's a great start! Some students chose to give $1.00 even though they didn't wear jeans.

2. Student Council has begun their ongoing canned food drive. Different classes have been assigned different food items to bring in that will be put into Thanksgiving baskets. Student Council will supply the turkeys.

3. Next Friday, Nov. 16 will be a special Thanksgiving Dinner served in our lunchroom. Adults are encouraged and invited to attend. All money collected will be used to purchase supplies and food for the homeless. Thank you Tawnya for putting together this great project.

4. We continue our ongoing used eyelass collection for MOST MInistries.

Your support of any of these great projects is sincerely appreciated.

The important message for our students is that from the tremendous bounty of blessings our God has given us we are to be a blessing to others, and by our actions be a living example of the Gospel message.

"We love, because He first loved us." I John 4:19
