Happy New Year! I hope your Christmas season was blessed with time for family and friends as well as an opportunity to worship the gift of the Christ child born in a manger.
First Lutheran School is back in full swing and of course there's always lots going on. Since its been awhile since I've "blogged", I wanted to jsut give a few highlights of the many things happening around campus.
During all of the 2nd quarter students were allowed to have a jeans day on Thursday. Students were allowed to wear jeans and their uniform shirt if they paid $1. The money collected will be donated to All Childrens Hospital. Students were really excited to participate in this and when the quarter is over we should have collected over $1,000!
Basketball season is in full swing and this weekend we have a special "basketball happening" here on campus. Concordia Lutheran School in Conover, North Carolina is traveling down here to play our First Lutheran Flames and Our Savior on Saturday. Bill Unverfehrt ( a former principal here) will be bringing down his Varsity boys and girls teams. They will also have lunch here on Saturday and attend our worship service in the evening. Our goal is to make this a yearly event, with our teams having the opportunity to travel to North Carolina next year.
You may have noticed our newest security measures. We have installed fences and gates between our 3 school builidngs. This will help keep our students safe as they travel between buildings during the school day. These fences were able to be purchased from funds that were raised at last year's auction.
On Friday January 25, Doug Larson will be performing for our students in the CLC. Doug is a Christian entertainer whose songs help him share the love of Jesus Christ with school age students. His performance begins at 1:30 and parents are invited to attend as well.
Its hard to believe that the school year is halfway over. Re enrollment for next year is right around the corner. If you know of families who are looking for a quality Christian education for their child, please have them contact the school office for an enrollment application.
